Two charismatic tenors of the same voice type and on the same stage, as friends, not rivals – is this even possible? This question is to be answer at a concert on 3rd November 2019 at the Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum. The program will include greatest tenor opera hits, however who will sing what aria will remain a secret until the very last moment.
Stephen Costello will make his Prague debut with a three years delay. He was supposed to perform here on 26th January 2016 at the Questa o quella Concert alongside two superb sopranos Maria Agresta and Angel Joy Blue, but got trapped in New York City snow storm. Petr Nekoranec stepped in for him.
Born in Philadelphia, tenor Stephen Costello, received his acclaim in the US back in 2007 with his debut at the Metropolitan Opera, in the role of Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor) which was also the opening performance of the season. Two years later he received the prestigious Richard Tucker Award and since then he introduced himself at nearly all important opera and festival stages, including the Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin or the Salzburg Festival. In spring 2019, he will be returning to the Met as Alfredo (La traviata), and the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto). In the summer 2019, he will introduce himself as the Duke at the famous festival in Bregenz.
Since September 2019, Petr Nekoranec has been the soloist of the Stuttgart Opera; prior to that he studied at the opera studio of the Bavarian State Opera (2014–2016) and at the Lindemann Program of the Metropolitan Opera (2016–2018). At the same time, he performed at concerts on various stages at home. Most recently he sang at the Mozart’s Birthday Gala on 27th January 2019 at the Estates Theatre, under the baton of Plácido Domingo: “Petr Nekoranec is the walking definition of a rising star, with a voice and stage presence well beyond his tender age of 26.“ – Bachtrack.com, 2019
