Juan Diego Flórez, one of the most shinning stars of today’s opera world just included Prague in his European tour! Following Rome, Vienna and Salzburg, Prague, too, will have the opportunity to admire his fascinating vocal arts. He will sing famous as well as less-famous songs and arias of Italian and French composers.
Born in Lima, Peru, Flórez made his professional debut and the first artistic success at the age of 23 at Rossini’s opera festival in Pesaro in 1996. His Corradino in Rossini’s opera Matilde de Shabran was a sensation to the listeners and an invite to an amazing career to the tenor. He already possessed a light flexible voice of a vast register. His spotless technique which enables him to reach the highest notes also brought about his nickname “The King of High Cs”. After the premiere of Donizetti’s La fille du regiment in La Scala on 20th February 2007, he broke the 74-year-long tradition of the opera house (no encores) and he repeated the aria „Ah! mes amis“ with nine high Cs to the audience raging with excitement. Today, his calendar is full till 2017. He performs regularly in La Scala, Metropolitan Opera New York, Covent Garden in London, Vienna State Opera, Rossini Festival in Pesaro and many others. He became a Decca exclusive recording artist in March 2001.
