Joseph Calleja – tenor
Lada Bočková – soprano
Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic
Rastislav Štúr – conductor
The famous tenor Joseph Calleja is often compared to "the legendary singers such as Jussi Björling, Beniamino Gigli and Enrico Caruso" (Associated Press). Native of Malta, he made his opera debut at the age of 19 in Malta in 1997. A year later, he won the Enrico Caruso Competition in Milan and in 1999 he won the Placido Domingo Operália. Since then, he has been a regular guest at prestigious opera houses, including the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Los Angeles Opera, the Chicago Lyric Opera, London's Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera and Munich, etc. Since his Prague debut in 2013, he has visited Prague, which he has fallen in love with, several times at the invitation of the Nachtigall Artists Agency. Each time he came with a special guest.
This time, his stage partner will be soprano Lada Bočková. A JAMU Brno graduate, she has been a member of the Theater Bonn ensemble in Germany since the 2020/21 season, where she will play the Oscar in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera, directed by Sir David Pountney, Nerone in Handel's Agrippina and Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro; in the same role she will also make her debut at the Prague National Theatre.
