New Zealand tenor Pene Pati becomes the darling of the audience wherever he appears. We will all remember his sunny voice soon. The guest of his Prague debut will be his wonderful wife, a native of Cairo, soprano Amina Edris. They are both welcome guests of opera stages on both sides of the Atlantic. They met while studying in Christchurch on the South Island of New Zealand in 2011 and it was love at first sight! They got married in 2016, when they both successfully completed opera programs at the San Francisco Opera.
Pene Pati made his San Francisco Opera debut in 2017 as Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto. After assuming the role of Percy (Anna Bolena) at the Opéra National de Bordeaux, the Opéra-Online server described him as "the most significant discovery in the field of tenor in the last ten years“, and subsequent performances have confirmed Pene Pati's exceptional reputation. This season he made his debut at the Paris National Opera (Nemorino, L’elisir d’amore), the Vienna State Opera (Percy, Anna Bolena), the Berlin State Opera (Alfredo, La traviata) and in July he will be Amenophis (Moise et Pharaon) at the Aix- in Provence. An exclusive contract with the prestigious recording company Warner Classics also brought Pati his debut album, with Italian and French arias (Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine under the baton of Emmanuel Villaume, released in March 2022).
Pene's guest, Amina Edris, debuted in 2016 at the San Jose Opera in California as Susanna at Le nozze di Figaro. She soon became one of the most sought-after sopranos of her generation, and the Forum Opera server called her a "revelation." Amina’s 21/22 season includes four exciting role debuts and several house debuts. She begins her season in France with her role debut as Alice (Robert le diable) at Opéra National de Bordeaux, followed by her house and role debut at the Opéra du Rhin as Micaëla (Carmen). Another role and house debut is next as she performs Violetta (La traviata) at Opéra de Limoges followed by her house debut in the same role at the Canadian Opera Company. Amina recently “brought the Opera Bastille to their knees thanks to her unparalleled portrayal of the title-role” in Vincent Huguet’s new production of Massenet’s Manon (Forum Opera) and she returns to the Opéra National de Paris as La Folie (Platée) in June. Her season ends with her debut at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence as Adalgisa (Norma) in an in concert performance in July.
Their first performance in Prague promises a beautiful musical experience and a benefaction. Part of the proceeds from the tickets will be used through the Association of Friends of Musical Talents to support opera youth, to organize singing masterclasses for the most talented students.
Under the patronage of the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic, Martin Baxa.
