The New Zealand tenor of Samoan origin Pene Pati completely enchanted Prague at his debut concert in January 2023. Until then, he was an almost unknown artist in our country, hence the critics rightly wrote about "another discovery of the Nachtigall Artists agency" (Opera PLUS, 5th February 2023).
Abroad, Pene has been a star for several years, the press likes to call him the "Samoan Pavarotti", a singer who fully masters the "authentic" bel canto style, a voice that is born once in many years. In addition, Pene has an amazing charisma, and can immediately establish contact with the audience with his immediacy, his winning smile, his sunny nature.
It was a wonderful evening, the last day of January 2023 in Prague’s Rudolfinum – and it awaits us again! But not only that: during three months, Prague will be visited by three exceptional tenors of the contemporary music scene who will give concerts in the city: Pene Pati, Jonathan Tetelmann and Jonas Kaufmann.
Recently, Pene has been a guest at the Paris National Opera (Nemorino, L’elisir d’amore), the Vienna State Opera (Percy, Anna Bolena), the Berlin State Opera (Alfredo, La traviata, and Mitridate, Mitridate, re di Ponto), in San Diego (Roméo, Roméo et Juliette), at the festival in Aix-en Provence (Amenophis, Moise et Pharaon), in Monte Carlo (Faust, La damnation de Faust) or at the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Des Grieux, Manon).
He will start the 2023/24 season in October in Toronto as Rodolfo (La bohème), followed by the San Francisco Opera (Nemorino, L’elisir d’amore), the Deutsche Opera Berlin (Alfredo, La traviata), the Paris National Opera (Orombello, Beatrice di Tenda), Hamburg State Opera (Des Grieux, Manon), Berlin State Opera (Duke of Mantua, Rigoletto), etc. We are lucky that we managed to find a date in such a busy schedule. Pene is really looking forward to coming back to Prague...
In March 2022, Pene released a highly acclaimed debut album with Italian and French arias (Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine conducted by Emmanuel Villaume, Warner Classics label). “I hope the album will leave listeners with a sense of warmth, tenderness, and the sincerity of storytelling. To me, this is the essence of opera and the reason why I sing…”, says the artist.
At his second concert in Prague, he will once again offer beautiful opera arias, including those from his second CD, which is currently being completed by the Warner Classics label.
