Guest – Vilém Veverka – oboe
The 28-year-old South-African soprano Pretty Yende made her excellent debut at the Metropolitan Opera in January 2013. She starred as Adèle in Rossini’s Le comte Ory alongside Juan Diego Flórez and she received excited reviews. Pretty stepped in the role for Nino Machaidze and was able to learn the role in just one week! “An incredible event foreshadowing an incredible career”, said one of the reviews.
Pretty won several prestigious singing competitions including Belvedere in Vienna (2009) and Plácido Domingo’s Operalia (2011) where, apart from the first prize, she also won the Zarzuela category and Prize of the Audience. Hence, she was the first artist in the history to win all three prizes. In 2011, she made her debut in La Scala, Milan as Berenice (Rossini: L’occasione fa il ladro) and was invited back to sing other roles including Norina (Donizetti: Don Pasquale) or Musetta (Puccini: La bohème). During the upcoming months she will make her debuts in the Washington National Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and she will also return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Metropolitan Opera. An incredible career, indeed!
