The renowned tenor Rolando Villazón will perform in Prague in support of Zdravotní klaun Charity organization. In an attractive lieder recital, he will be accompanied by Canadian pianist Carrie-Ann Matheson. In support of the charity, Maestro Rolando Villazón has waived his usual fee so that all proceeds may go to those in need.
It was as the winner of several prizes at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia competition in 1999 that Rolando Villazón first burst on the international music scene. He made his European debut that same year as Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon in Genoa, swiftly followed by further debuts at the Opéra national de Paris as Alfredo (La traviata) and the State Opera Berlin as Macduff (Macbeth). He went on to become one of the most sought-after performers of his generation.
Born in Mexico City, Rolando Villazón began his studies at the National Conservatory of Music before entering young artist programmes in Pittsburgh and at San Francisco Opera. A recipient of many prestigious awards, he has been named Chévalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, one of the highest awards in the fields of arts and literature in France. He acts as ambassador for the RED NOSES Clowndoctors International charity. He is a member of the Collège de Pataphysique Paris. In early 2017, Rolando Villazón was appointed ambassador of the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation and in July 2017, he was named artistic director of the Salzburg Mozart Week from 2019 onwards.
