Natalie Lewismezzo-soprano

Kristina Marková Stepasjuková – piano

The popular Talents of World Opera Series at the New Town Hall welcomes yet another rising star: American mezzo-soprano Natalie Lewis. In February 2023, she won First Prize at the Concert of Arias competition organised by Houston Grand Opera, and in October 2025 she made a strong impression at the prestigious Operalia competition founded by Plácido Domingo, taking Second Prize and the Birgit Nilsson Prize. As you may recall, the Georgian mezzo-soprano Ekaterine Buachidze won Operalia that year and we introduced her to you last spring. However, Natalie Lewis certainly did not escape our attention back then!

Like Ekaterine, Natalie was also a member of the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera. This prestigious Munich-based studio has helped launch the international careers of numerous distinguished singers, including mezzo-soprano Violeta Urmana, British baritone Armand Rabot, who performed at the New Town Hall on 13th September 2026, and Czech tenor Petr Nekoranec.

Natalie Lewis is staying in Munich for the time being. Since the 2025/26 season, she has been a soloist at the Bavarian State Opera, where her roles this season include Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Orsini (Lucrezia Borgia) and Pasqualita (Doctor Atomic).

In spring 2027, she will make her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic as Waltraute in Die Walküre, conducted by Kirill Petrenko. The performances will take place first at the Salzburg Easter Festival in March, followed by concert version of Die Walküre at the Philharmonie Berlin in April. Other highlights of the season include the First Maid in Elektra at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Brigitta in a concert performance of Korngold’s Die tote Stadt with Oksana Lyniv and the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw; and Mary in a concert performance of Der fliegende Holländer with the SWR Symphony Orchestra at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. The 2026/27 season will also bring Natalie a series of concert engagements, including a song recital with Malcolm Martineau at the Bavarian State Opera.

Don’t miss the Prague debut of a singer whose international career is gaining momentum! Natalie Lewis will perform at the New Town Hall, accompanied on the piano by Kristina Marková Stepasjuková.
