Rastislav Štúr, a graduate from Brno’s Janáček Academy of Music, was director (2018–2021) and chief conductor (2008–2020) of the Slovak National Theatre Opera in Bratislava. He made his debut on this stage in 1996 (Boito: Mefistofele) and has since conducted a number of successful opera performances here. He regularly cooperates with the National Theatre Brno. He was a guest conductor in Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg (The Bartered Bride), opera houses in Graz (L’elisir d’amore), Giessen (Il barbiere di Siviglia), and Essen (Così fan tutte). In 2016 he conducted Dvořák’s Rusalka in NCPA (National Centre for the Performing Arts) in Beijing, as the first ever performance of a Czech opera in China.
On concert stages, he was a partner to many renowned opera stars (Peter Dvorský, Montserrat Caballé, Edita Gruberová, Gabriela Beňačková, Elena Obraztsova, Ilona Tokody, Eva Urbanová, Pavol Breslik, Lawrence Brownlee), and he collaborated on solo CDs of Peter Dvorský and Jolana Fogašová. In the most recent years, he’s been cooperating mainly with Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra and Prague Symphony Orchestra, including several international tours.
